Turning things around

November 22nd 2008 09:08
Queen of the South FC are a club of great history, and one that was riding a wave of success late last year. They made the Scottish Cup final by defeating Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen, to book there place in the final & qualify for the UEFA Cup.

One season on and suddenly things have changed, Queens after a wonderful start to there SFL Division One campaign, find themselves searching for answers.

The season started off just where things were left from the following year, the team playing well & everyone fighting for positions. Now mid way through the year the club is sitting in 4th spot, and a lose against Clyde tonight could see them out of the running for promotion to the Scottish Premier League.

Queens not to long ago were leading the First Division and doing it in fine style, but a success of injuries has stalled the campaign & put Queens right back into the pack.

With only a hand full of defenders available for the past few weeks, the team has struggled to stay organised & no clean sheets for quite some time.

The time is now for every member of this squad to make a stand, and let the Scottish football world know that there run into Europe & Cup Final wasn't a dream, but a reality of the talent this club has got.

Gordon Chisholm will be looking for the more experienced players in Thomson & Dobbie to lead the line, in search of the win to re start the promotion push.

Dobbie is possibly the best striker currently not playing in the SPL, but his form has disappeared in recent weeks. If the Doonhamers are to get anything out of the season, Stephen Dobbie needs to find the back of the net & do it on a regular basis.

The fight is there, it just needs to be found again.

Macedonia 1-0 Scotland

September 7th 2008 08:16
Scotland's bid for a World Cup birth has started poorly, with an away 1-0 loss to Macedonia.

Macedonia scores there early goal

Scotland conceded early on in the match, and then it was all up hill from there. Goran Maznov was given a free kick which was highly disputable, Goce Sedloski fired in a shot from the resulting free kick in which Craig Gordon was able to keep out, but Ilcho Naumoski was there to tap it in.

Macedonia controlled the early going in this match, with Goran Pandev & Goran Maznov causing problems for the Scotland defenders. There ball control, and movement showed why Macedonia are capable of World Cup qualification.

Just before the half time break, James McFadden had a wonderful opportunity turned away from keeper Milosevski.

After the break Scotland were able to re group and surge forward looking for an equaliser, James McFadden was denied a penalty as Scotland put on the pressure.

Scotland with a 4-4-2 formation, played with Kenny Miller & James McFadden as the two strikers.

Brown connected with an 18 yard strike, but it was well saved by Petar Milosevski. Chances came in thick & fast for Scotland, with a Naysmith cross into the 6 yard box not put away by Darren Fletcher.

The denied penatly added salt into the Scotland wounds, with McFadden earning a booking for his protests about the decision. Milosevski looked to have clipped the Scottish striker inside the box, but it was waved away from referee Pavel Kralovec.

The end result now puts pressure on Scotland to proceed, with the Iceland match only a few days away anything less then a win will be a disaster.

Simmons signs for Queens

September 6th 2008 11:00
Queen of the South have further strengthened there squad, with the signing of former Hearts defender Stephen Simmons.

New signing Simmons

Simmons who has also played for Dunfermline & was recently rumored to be joining Dundee, has signed a contract which will keep him at the Palmerston Park club until December 31.

Simmons recently played as a trialist for Raith Rovers, but jumped at the chance to sign for Queens.

Queen of the South who currently sit second on the Irn-Bru First Division 1 table, will be hoping that Simmons can bring his SPL experience & help the Dumfries club push for that elusive SPL promotion.

Simmons left Hearts at the end of last season, and was able to negotiate with any club as a free agent.

It's not known whether Simmons will be in the squad to face Morton in the Alba Challenge Cup on Sunday, but he will surely add another dimension to the Queens team.
