Wellington 2-4 Melbourne: Allsopp back to his best

August 24th 2008 10:43
It was a wet & rainy day at Wellington this afternoon as Melbourne Victory recorded there first win of the 2008/09 A-League season.

Melbourne put on a show today as the crushed Wellington 4-2 in what was a superb performance, it was a performance which brought memories back of there wonderful Championship & Premiership season.

Carlos Hernandez proved once again that he is one of best passing midfielder's in the A-League, as he controlled the game from the middle of the park.

Danny Allsopp kicked off the scoring run with a wonderful dribbling effort as the Wellington defenders sat back and watched, Allsopp controlled the ball well with the right boot to fire home from close range.

Shaun Smeltz kept Wellington alive with a goal on the 29 minute mark, but it had little impact in the end. Wellington just didn't have the class to out weigh Melbourne, as Melbourne pushed for another.

Soon after Allsopp was on the score sheet again, as Victory defender Matthew Kemp put Allsopp through one on one with the keeper, for his second of the game. Melbourne took control of the game after that, and buried the sword deep into the hearts of the Wellington faithful.

After the halftime break Melbourne took charge, scoring 2 goals to kill off any hope of a Wellington survival. New signing Fabiano got his Melbourne Victory score run started with a wonderful right foot snap, that went straight past Wellington keeper Glen Moss.

Captain courageous Kevin Muscat soon made it 4 goals for Melbourne, as he replied to Shaun Smeltz penatly kick only moments earlier.

It was a very solid performance from the Melbourne side, who have been busy in the transfer market & strengthened there squad with the signings of Lopez, Thwaite, Fabiano along with a few others.

Melbourne now return home for the first time this season, where there will be more then 20,000 in attendance.
